Introduction
i have been traveling the middle east
with my camera for fifteen years,
covering "the news."
from beirut to baghdad,
jerusalem, tunis, tehran:
the lebanese civil war, israeli invasion,
al intifadah , the iran-iraq war, desert storm...
my journey to syria was a search for the core of certain things;
an archeology.

these pictures, are a sketch pad of my time in Bilad al-Sham.
travels to lost desert cities, crusader castles, and grand bazaars,
as well as
a mystical enounter with sufi masters of damascus.
the readings are are from travelers, writers and historians,
who have walked the road to damascus,
from antiquity to cyberspace.
